What's on the bookcase?

The Bookcase Beauty

This week, I've rounded up the latest book news, first thoughts on THE memoir of the year, and follow up information on that viral book ornament! You don't want to miss this!

Hello, friends!

Can you believe November is next week?! That realization stunned me. It has me reflecting on how I want to spend the next nine weeks and daydreaming my goals for 2024.

One goal that will remain the same is to read at least 100 books and here's how I'm going to do it.

Another goal I have is to read a book in Spanish. It will definitely be a beginner chapter book, but I'm going for it!

Another dream I'm mulling around is to plan a reading retreat. I love to travel and I've dreamed of meeting so many of you for so long! Let me know if you could see yourself taking a trip with me in 2024!

Right now feels like a sweet spot of calm before the hustle of the holiday season hits. It's cooled off, but the schedule hasn't filled and the panic of shopping for gifts hasn't set in.

I'm soaking in these days of quiet reading with a reminder of "everything in its time."

There's plenty happening in the book world, though. Below are some noteworthy updates you don't want to miss!

“I look at the fact that I survived and I think, "That wasn't me. That was God.”
- Britney Spears, The Woman in Me

On the Shelf

The Woman in Me by Britney Spears published this week

It's anticipated to be the best selling memoir of all time. I listened to the audio on publication day and, while I'm still forming my final reflections, Britney's heart comes through loud and clear. Watch for my review on Instagram and do not miss Britney's story.

Check out this Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade

Cooler weather has me dreaming of "warmer" cocktails. This blackberry bourbon lemonade is equal parts sweet and warming. I've also developed a recent love for Kirkland organic lemonade, making this recipe absolutely delicious.

Lessons in Chemistry wows!

The first three episodes of Lessons in Chemistry are available on AppleTV+ and I'm all in!

Every bookworm's biggest fear of a screen adaptation is that it won't live up to the book.

While condensed for time, the meaning, heart, and sharp wit is all still there. They've followed the book closely in these first three episodes.

Don't have AppleTV+? They have some free trial options!

If you've recently purchased a new Apple device (hello, me in June after sacrificing my phone to the ocean), you may be eligible for three FREE months of AppleTV+.

Check your Apple settings to see if you're eligible.

Alternatively, everyone is welcome to try it free for seven days!

An update on book ornaments!

I shared this reel on Instagram earlier this week about making your own book ornament using my free template or ordering one from my Etsy shop.

If you're looking to make the ornament yourself, check out this blog post for directions and the exact materials list.

If you'd like me to make your ornament, don't wait! Everything you need to know about ordering is in the Etsy listing.

This 100% personalized gift is perfect for the readers in your life!

A cautious concern about Books-A-Trillion

I want to begin this segment with a disclaimer that I am not here to tell anyone where they should or should not get their reading material, but rather be aware.

I've recently been bombarded with Facebook ads for this new platform called Books-A-Trillion.

They boast "unlimited reading at a fraction of the cost," with a one-time $50 lifetime membership fee. They advertise new, best-selling books available for instant download onto your Kindle or email.

After a deep dive chat with my book club and accompanying internet sleuthing, it looks to be a Limewire-like platform for books. All members can upload digital files for others to download.

To me, this does not sound like book-swapping. This sounds like piracy.

Not to mention dangerous to the consumer by downloading unsecure links.

I haven't found any information that indicates authors and publishers are being compensated for their work.

This is a good reminder to myself that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I predict this company will get itself into hot water sooner than later.

What do you think?

Be on the lookout next week for our November book club announcement! Interested in joining my book club? Check out the details here. I'd love for you to join!

Be sure to stay up-to-date with me on Instagram! Happy reading!

With joy,
